For the second day in succession, the international conference entitled “Challenges of Trauma Counseling in Conflicted Areas” proceeded with the participation of more than 180 participants representing organizations working in the sphere of mental health, social work and counseling, in addition to numerous academics and representatives of educational organizations.

The first session, which was moderated by Ms. Laila Atshan, was launched with presenting the paper of Dr. Nadera Shalhoub Kevorkian under the title “No Place to Call Home: Trauma and House Demolitions”. This was followed by the presentation of Mrs. Khawla Al-Azraq’s paper entitled “Self-Support Groups for Wives and Mothers of Political Prisoners in Bethlehem Area”. Then, Dr. Salah Ahmad, from Karkuk Centre for Torture Victims in Iraq presented his paper under the title “Child and Youth Therapy in Iraqi Kurdistan”. Upon discussing the above-mentioned papers and after a short break, the second session was launched, moderated by Mrs. Khawla Al-Azraq, wherein the following papers were presented:

Dr. Fernando Jiovanni Arias’s paper entitled “The Challenges of Working with Victims of Chronic and Degraded Armed Conflicts”.( The paper was presented through conference call from Colombia due to the fact that Dr. Arias was unable to come to Palestine in the aftermath of being exposed to a car accident).

Mrs. Mona Zaghrout Hodaly’s paper entitled “The East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program’s experience in working with victims of political violence in West Bank”.

Mr. Wisam Suhweil’s paper entitled “The Impact of torture on the Palestinian Prisoners”.

The above mentioned papers were discussed.

During the third and last session, which was moderated by Mr. Mohammad Mahajneh, Dr. Mohammad Haj Yahia presented his paper entitled “Issues and Challenges in Studying the Mental Health Consequences of Children’s Exposure to Political Violence: the status of Palestinian Children”. The discussion of this paper was followed by the closing remarks by Mr. Nader Abu Amsha, Director of the East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program, who expressed his thanks to the participants as well as to the presenters of the different papers, and expressed a special thanks to the participants from Gaza Strip who are undergoing difficult circumstances. He also extended his thanks to the scientific committee who played a fundamental role in making this conference a success namely:

لليوم الثاني على التوالي، تم استكمال أعمال المؤتمر الدولي الذي عقد تحت عنوان " التحديات في مواجهة الصدمات النفسية في مناطق النزاعات" بحضور مميز يتجاوز المئة وثمانون مشاركاً ممثلين عن المؤسسات العاملة في مجال الصحة النفسية والخدمة الاجتماعية والارشاد، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الأكاديميين وممثلي المؤسسات التعليمية.

 وقد تم افتتاح الجلسة الأولى التي قامت بإدارتها الآنسة ليلى العطشان حيث ابتدأت بتقديم ورقة من قبل الدكتورة نادرة شلهوب كيفوركيان تحت عنوان " أين بيتي : الصدمة النفسية وهدم البيوت". تلاها تقديم ورقة السيدة خولة الأزرق تحت عنوان " الدعم الذاتي لزوجات وأمهات الأسرى السياسيين في محافظة بيت لحم". كما قدّم الدكتور صلاح أحمد ، وهو من مركز كركوك لضحايا التعذيب في العراق ورقة بعنوان " علاج الأطفال والشبان في كردستان العراق" . وقد دار نقاش لتلك الأوراق قبل استراحة قصيرة تلتها الجلسة الثانية بإدارة السيدة خولة الأزرق حيث عرضت فيها ثلاثة أوراق لكل من:

د. فيرناندو جيوفاني،  حول " الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي: تحديات العمل مع ضحايا العنف المسلّح" حيث قدّمها عن طريق الهاتف من كولومبيا بسبب عدم تمكنّه من الحضور نتيجة تعرّضه لحادث سير.

السيدة منى زغروت هودلي ، حول " تجربة جمعية الشبان المسيحية القدس- برنامج التأهيل في العمل مع ضحايا العنف السياسي في الضفة الغربية".

السيد وسام سحويل، حول " أساليب التعذيب في السجون الاسرائيلية : أبعادها النفسية والاجتماعية والجسدية بهدف رصد التجربة المؤلمة للتعذيب في السجون الاسرائيلية". وقد تم نقاش الأوراق المطروحة.

أما الجلسة الثالثة والأخيرة، فقد قام بإدارتها السيد محمد محاجنة حيث قدّم خلالها الدكتور محمد الحاج يحيى ورقة بعنوان " قضايا وتحديات في دراسة تبعات الصحة النفسية للأطفال المعرّضين للعنف السياسي: حالة الأطفال الفلسطينيين". تلا نقاش هذه الورقة ملاحظات ختامية قدّمها السيد نادر أبو عمشا ، مدير جمعية الشبان المسيحية القدس- برنامج التأهيل حيث عبّر عن شكره للحضور الكثيف من المهنيين والمسؤولين في مجال التدخّل النفسي والاجتماعي ، كما قدّم شكراً خاصاً لجميع مقدّمي الأوراق المحليين والدوليين ، وعبّر عن تقديره للمشاركين من قطاع غزة وأشار إلى أننا قد أولينا اهتماماً خاصاً بهم كوننا شعب واحد نعيش في وطن ممزق الأشلاء . وقد قدّم شكراً جزيلاً للّجنة العلمية التي كان لها دوراً أساسياً في إنجاح هذا المؤتمر والتي تضم كلاً من :
