The East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program (EJ-YMCA-RP)
Has terminated the project of Forced Displacement in the oPt Prevention & Protection
This project was implemented by the East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program targeting 613 children (boys and girls), 299 caregivers as well as 74 teachers from different areas in Palestine (Attouf Governmental School, Ein El-Beida Governmental School in the Jordan Valley, Twaneh Governmental School and Imneizel Governmental School in south Hebron).
The multiple displacement events by the Israeli military forces, constant displacement pressures, poverty, settler violence and so forth had clear negative psychosocial impacts on these communities has become apparent that community members are suffering from deep seat psychosocial difficulties. Therefore, the provision of psychosocial programming to children and parents is vital to their mental health and wellbeing.
The intervention was through the use of CBI (Classroom-Based-Intervention) technique with children, and training teachers to implement this technique at schools in order to assure sustainability of the intervention. Moreover, the East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program contributed to the creation of a protective atmosphere for children at their schools and communities by supporting their caregivers and enhancing their abilities to deal with their children.
The implementation period of action was during the period from 1/12/2009 until 31/3/2010 in partnership with Save the Children UK in Palestine, and the project was financed by the Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).
